This is the time of year to start getting serious about marathon season, and many brands introduce their latest updates to running catalogs in the early parts of the new year. Boston may be covered in a blanket of snow and experiencing freezing temperatures, but New Balance, which calls the city home, is officially unveiling its latest innovation in the performance running space with the all-new Ellipse.
Inspired by signature New Balance design lines, like those found on archival running sneakers, the New Balance Ellipse was designed with runners of all skill levels in mind. Clearly, with the wild success of the adidas Adizero Evo SL, New Balance saw fit to introduce a competitor, and the Ellipse is a solid entry into the lightweight, budget running market.
The model uses a lightweight and breathable engineered mesh upper that stretches yet remains structurally sound for a breathable and secure ride. On this mesh sits a free-flowing wavy pattern that starts on the heel and wraps around to the toe, passing by a strip of fused material separating two different woven mesh patterns. Reflective detailing helps to stay visible in low-light conditions, but the true star of the show is the Fresh Foam X midsole, which comes with a 37.9MM stack height.

“The Ellipse celebrates all who run – whether logging their first miles or recovering after race day – by delivering an elevated cushioned experience and a rockered profile that helps keep things easy on the body.” Says Kevin FitzPatrick, Global Vice President of Running at New Balance. “It’s designed to motivate runners of all types to get out there and enjoy their run.”
The New Balance Ellipse will debut on March 5, 2026 via New Balance and global retailers. Other colorways will hit shelves on March 19. Retail is set at $145.
