BowFlex’s SelectTech 552 dumbbells have been a fan-favorite for years. You may have heard that the company recalled the original SelectTech 552 in June 2025 after reports of the plates dislodging. But it came back with a new version called the Results Series, which is really similar to the original, but with a few tweaks to the materials and a lower price tag. (Those dislodged plates are now a thing of the past.)

This set is adjustable, with weight ranging from 5 to 52.5 pounds. The weight adjusts in 2.5-pound increments from 5 to 25 pounds, and then in 5–pound increments up to 50 pounds. (There’s a final 2.5–pound increase for the full weight.) Some adjustable dumbbells can be clunky and time-consuming to tweak, but BowFlex’s method is simple. Just set the weight on the included tray, twist the dials on the ends to your desired weight, and pull up. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to adjust the weight in just a few seconds. Just be aware that the plates may have to wiggle into place if they don’t sync up perfectly.

The dumbbell isn’t massive, but it is bulkier at smaller weights than you’d see with an individual standard weight. (Once you get to heavier weights, the size comparisons line up well.) The plates can also rattle sometimes, although that’s common with adjustable weights. But with 15 weights jammed into one convenient set, you can get a lot of mileage out of this adjustable dumbbell.
